the life chaoticwith Ernest P. Reilly May 25 Up and running againSo it's been a little while since I've blogged. This is for a number of reasons. In February, when I first stopped blogging, it was b/c things in my life got hectic and I wasn't up for blogging about it. Then I got out of the habit. Then I forgot how I enjoyed it. Then I lost all my oomph for it. Then I joined Facebook and I got lazy. I've recently remembered how much I enjoy writing. I know it's likely terribly boring for you readers, but hey, as I've always maintained, you don't *have* to read it, and mostly I write this for the sake of writing and for communicating information to certain people. So I think I'll get back to it... just in a new blog. I've been thinking about creating a new blog for a long time, but I've been trying to come up w/ a good name for it and I've just now given up. I mean, it's like naming a book! You want to pick a good name for it, right? And, I'm definitely one for appreciating blogs, and I think some of the best are the ones w/ clever names and themes... but since my life IS so boring, I really couldn't come up w/ anything clever myself, so I decided to stop fussing and just create one. I'm not going to list it on here b/c one of the main reasons for creating a new blog is to gain some anonymity that I definitely don't have w/ this blog. If you want to know what it is, email me and I'll give you the address. I'm not holding my breath. February 10 So cute (Part 2)!Some more pictures of Sphynx cats... Just b/c I love them so much and Sarah hates them and I know she feels compelled to check my blog whenever I put up a new entry. Muahahahaha. February 08 So cute!Lately I've been thinking that I'd really like to get a cat. I don't have the time or energy to get a dog, and I love cats too... well, basically I just want something cuddly that will hang out w/ me at home and love me unconditionally (as I would love it). So, poking around a bit today, I found some pictures from wikipedia.org of Sphynx cats... a breed I am now considering. Adorable. Yep, they have no fur. According to Wikipedia, they're very cuddly and make quite good pets. This first picture is a two-week old kitten. It looks like a wrinkle-dog! Melts my heart. February 06 Ahh.Maze.IngOkay, so, we all know I'm a HUGE sucker for animals, especially small furry ones... and ESPECIALLY kittens. C'mon, if you don't like kittens, I firmly believe you're missing a part of your soul. So, procrastinating as I do, I was checking out cuteoverload.com today, and I found these... Melts my heart. February 01 A new listAlright, I know I go on and on about organ donation sometimes but it's one of the issues closest to my heart... I mean, c'mon, people like me will die because people don't register their wishes, or b/c they don't support organ donation for whatever reason ... so I'm just trying to raise awareness in my own way, and wtf, it's my blog and I'll cry if I want to. So the reason for this entry: lately I've been working on a paper for my ethics class about organ donation (my thesis being that morally, one ought to donate one's organs... duh.) To do this, I've looked up a number of stats, etc. along w/ other books and journals. In particular, I stumbled on to the UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) website (www.unos.org). I quite like that on their homepage, they have a tally of the number of people waiting for organ transplant. Keep in mind this is an American site. So, no, there aren't just 95 000 people in the world waiting for transplant. That's 95 000 people in the US alone. Anyhoo, this nice lil feature from the UNOS site has prompted me to add a list to this craptacular blog, of people waiting for transplant on their database. January 31 Some sort of good newsWell, I've been offered a PhD spot here in Sheff for next year, working with Chris. I'm cooking up a project that I'd really like to do, which may or may not be my undoing. If it is, I don't think I'll say I regretted it. I've got a lot of crazy ideas in my head, really. I've said it before that my ambition might be my tragic flaw, but for now it's gotten me in to school in a land far, far away, and some other pretty decent things in life... so it's not all bad. Anyhoo, the reason I say it's sort of good news is b/c I'm not sure yet if I'll be able to do it. Chris and I (and potentially some people at King's College, aka one of the best schools in Europe) are going to put together a grant proposal to do this project, and if that works out, then I'll be able to stay. Just cross your fingers and toes for me. January 30 Hay-mooHope just sent me some really cute pictures of Hamish, her cat, so I thought I'd put them up for our enjoyment :) January 28 Mmmm conversation hearts...Okay, so, I've probably blogged about this before, but I have a sick obsession with conversation hearts... you know, those little candies that come out near Valentine's day that are shaped like hearts, made purely of sugar, and have little messages on them? Yep, those are them... mmm. Last year I found a huge big bag somewhere (Walmart? London Drugs perhaps?) and relished it for weeks. Sadly, since candy here in the UK is different than that in North America (and there's no such thing as Walmart or London Drugs here), I don't think my hips and booty will have the pleasure of such an addition this year... sigh. Anyways, the reason I thought to write this blog: I found another blog this morning that's quite good, and the author seems to share my sentiments in this regard... http://nomorewastedpaper.wordpress.com/2007/01/08/dear-sweethearts-conversation-hearts/ January 22 Maid of honour dress: CheckAfter some discussion w/ me and the rest of her bridesmaids, Hope's picked our dress. Since two of her bridesmaids are w/ her in Vancouver, I'm in England, and our other sister Jarra is in Taiwan, she's decided to order dresses online, so we can all have a look and add our input. Initially we were going to get a pattern and all get our dresses made in our respective cities, but logistically it's really difficult to get that organized, and end up w/ us all having the same dress in the same fabric. So, after perusing the bridesmaid dress companies online, Hope's decided on a dress from this site: http://www.perfect-bridesmaid-dresses.com Here's how you can see the dress we're ordering: -On the lefthand side, click "Dessy" -From there, click on "Bridesmaid Dresses" -After that, near the bottom, click on "All Dessy Dresses" -Find style 2057 in the third row... click on that. -Select the Kiwi colour from the colour chart that pops up on the left. That's our dress. I'm quite happy w/ it. I think it's nice and simple, and apparently the fabric (charmeuse...?!?!) looks/feels like silk. Also, the bubble skirt looks like a no-Spanx-required, thankfully... phew! Hope says I can't tan for the wedding, though, since she isn't... sigh. Looking forward to the wedding!
